Which Saucony should a beginner buy first?

The short answer: The Saucony Ride. It is Saucony's best-selling daily trainer, covers the widest range of runners, and gives a beginner the right platform to understand what they need before committing to a more specialised model.

Why the Ride

The Ride is a neutral daily trainer with PWRRUN foam, enough cushion for runners new to regular mileage, and a ride character that is neither too soft nor too firm. It suits road running, light treadmill use, and walking. It is not so specialist that a beginner will outgrow the concept — most runners find the Ride appropriate for several years of training.

What about the Guide?

If you have been told by a physio, a gait specialist, or a running shop that you need a stability shoe, the Guide replaces the Ride as the starting point. The Guide adds medial support for runners who overpronate. Do not buy the Guide on instinct — but if it has been recommended, take the advice.

What beginners should avoid

The Endorphin Speed or Pro — these are race or tempo-specific shoes, not beginner trainers. The Kinvara — lightweight, low-stack, not appropriate as a first shoe for most beginners. The Triumph — excellent shoe, but more expensive than necessary for a first pair when the Ride covers the same purpose.

Verdict
Start with the Ride. If you pronate and have been told so, start with the Guide. Buy the Endorphin series when you have run enough to know what you are training for.
