Marathon training involves runs at different intensities. Easy runs and long slow runs need cushion and durability. Tempo runs, intervals, and race day demand a more responsive, faster shoe. Using one shoe for everything is possible but puts more wear on an expensive race shoe and does not optimise performance across the training cycle.
The Ride handles the majority of marathon training mileage for most runners. It is durable, well-cushioned, and available at a price point that makes rotation affordable. The Triumph offers more cushion for runners who find the Ride too firm on back-to-back training days or ultra-long runs.
The Endorphin Speed uses a nylon plate and PWRRUN PB foam — Saucony's racing formulation. It is faster and more responsive than the Ride, designed for efforts above easy-run pace. Many marathon runners use it for their weekly tempo run and for race day.
The Endorphin Pro adds a carbon fibre plate to the Endorphin Speed's foam platform. It is a race-day-only shoe — the carbon plate creates a stiffer ride that is best suited to sustained high-pace efforts, not daily training.
Easy and long runs: Ride (most runners) or Triumph (if you want more cushion).
Tempo and race day: Endorphin Speed.
Race day only: Endorphin Pro.
